The news of the demise of Rishi Kapoor has been extensively covered by international publications. The actor died on Thursday in Mumbai after a two-year battle with leukemia.

Bollywood veteran actor Rishi Kapoor died of Leukemia in Mumbai’s HN Reliance Hospital on Thursday (April 30). On Wednesday, his D-Day co-star Irrfan left for his heavenly abode. Rishi Kapoor’s demise has made a big news internationally as foreign media houses covered it extensively.
Here’s how some of the leading foreign publications covered the death of Bollywood’s original chocolate hero.
The New York Times
Calling him India’s Bollywood actor, The New York Times wrote that Rishi Kapoor died on Thursday after a two-year battle with leukemia. The publication also mentioned that “Rishi Kapoor’s death followed that on Wednesday of another Indian actor, Irrfan Khan, 54, who had roles in films such as Life of Pi and Jurassic Park, and had also suffered from cancer.”
BBC
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) termed Rishi Kapoor as “Bollywood’s romantic hero”. The publication wrote, “He was part of the Kapoor acting dynasty which has long dominated Bollywood, the Hindi film industry. The actor made a huge splash in 1973 with his first lead role in Bobby – a teenage love story. He played the romantic lead in dozens of films for over two decades, after which he made a successful transition to character roles.”
About his family, the article read, “Kapoor made a successful on-screen pair with actress Neetu Singh. In one of Bollywood’s most enduring love stories, they took that romance off-screen as well when they got married in 1980. Their son, Ranbir Kapoor, is a successful Bollywood star in his own right.”

The Time magazine informed that Rishi Kapoor died of leukemia on Thursday at a Mumbai hospital. It also mentioned PM Narendra Modi’s tweet calling the actor a powerhouse of talent.
The copy also included Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Chopra’s tweets expressing their grief on the actor’s demise.
The piece also read, “He switched to supporting roles in the 2000s and popular movies included Namastey London and Love Aaj Kal. He acted until recently and his last movie The Body was released in 2019.”
The Independent
The Independent called Rishi Kapoor “Bollywood icon. The article further added the official statement from Rishi Kapoor’s family informing about the actor’s demise.
It also wrote about Rishi Kapoor’s National Award, saying, “Earning a National Film Award for his debut role in Mera Naam Joker in 1970, Kapoor had a long career in Bollywood playing romantic leads before moving into character work later in his life.”
The piece also included Rishi Kapoor’s fight with cancer.
Variety
“Rishi Kapoor, one of Indias most beloved film actors who was best known for his romantic roles, has died. He was 67,” read the Variety piece.
The publication also mentioned about Rishi Kapoor’s film with Deepika Padukone. The publication wrote, “Despite his health problems, Kapoor recently announced that he would co-star with Deepika Padukone in a remake of the Hollywood hit The Intern. The actor was usually active on social media, but his activity went quiet around the beginning of April.”

The Holyywood Reporter went on to tell about Rishi Kapoor’s acting dynasty. The article read, “Born in Mumbai into the Kapoor acting dynasty, widely considered the first family of Bollywood, he was the son of legendary actor-director Raj and grandson of iconic theatre and film star Prithviraj. His brothers Rajiv and Randhir also became actors while his uncles included the actors Shashi and Shammi. Kapoor married the actress Neetu Singh, with whom he co-starred with in several films, and their son Ranbir, the fourth generation of the clan, is presently one of the leading stars in Bollywood.”
It added, “News of Kapoor’s death has shaken Bollywood, particularly as it came a day after the death of the equally revered star Irrfan Khan.”
The Guardian
While reporting about Rishi Kapoor’s death, The Guardian mentioned that the actor returned to India after spending one year in New York for his cancer treatment. The article reads, “He had returned to India last September after undergoing treatment in the US for almost a year, and was admitted to hospital twice in February.”
It further reads, “His father Raj Kapoor and grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor were doyens of Bollywood, the vast Hindi-language film industry based in the western coastal city of Mumbai.”
