Mugello has a spot on the 2020 calendar as part of the coronavirus rejig that has seen races elsewhere cancelled.
The circuit in it’s present form opened in the early 70s but the history of racing in the area stretches back to the 1920s where racers took to the local public roads.
Ferrari use it as a test base nowadays.
Sebastian Vettel bemoaned the fact it wasn’t on the calendar back in 2012, describing it as an “incredible circuit with lots of high-speed corners.”
Former Red Bull man Mark Webber said
10 laps of Mugello was “the same as doing 1000 laps around Abu Dhabi track in terms of satisfaction.”
Now, the drivers get a chance to feel what it is like in full race weekend mode.
