A community midwife from Co Tyrone who works at a hospital in London has said being on the cover of British Vogue magazine is a bit surreal.
Rachel Millar, from Co Tyrone, says she hopes it is a reminder to people that everyday jobs do make a difference and you do not need to have a huge social media following to make an impact.
Speaking to RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Ms Millar, who works at Homerton Hospital in east London, explained that the photo was taken during a normal shift on the labour ward and she had no idea there was potential for it to go on the cover.
When she was first told, she said, she did not quite believe it.
Jokingly, she said that she expected her mum to buy up all the copies of Vogue in her local Tesco.
Ms Millar said that her work has changed during the pandemic and she now conducts a lot of appointments over the phone, which is hard for women and their families to get used to.
She said quite a few people on the labour ward and in the community were Covid-19 positive but regardless, they still carried out home visits.
Ms Millar said she hoped the frontline roles will be recognised in the future and the kindness that has been shown during the pandemic will continue.
