A 48-year-old man has appeared in court in Dublin charged with the murder of his neighbour over the weekend.
Patrick McDonagh, of Whitechapel Road in Blanchardstown, is accused of the murder of 77-year-old Peter McDonald.
Mr McDonald was stabbed to death outside his home in Blanchardstown on Saturday morning.
Mr McDonagh was remanded in custody for a week and the judge recommended that he be seen by a psychiatrist.
Detective Garda Sean Burke gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.
He said Mr McDonagh was arrested just after midnight and when he was charged with the murder he made no reply.
His solicitor applied for free legal aid and asked that Mr McDonagh receive medical treatment in a psychiatric evaluation in custody.
Judge Gerard Jones asked the garda if Mr McDonagh understood the charge and the garda said he did.
He was remanded in custody to appear by video link at Cloverhill District Court next Friday.
