The pressure is mounting on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Manchester United legend has endured a mixed tenure as manager, enjoying some remarkable highs but also some incredible lows.
And this week has seen one of his lowest ever moments in management as the Red Devils lost to Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.
Solskjaer is teetering on the brink and actually leads the Premier League sack race
Despite beating PSG and RB Leipzig in Europe this season, United were defeated by the Group H minnows on Wednesday afternoon courtesy of some woeful defending.
The hosts’ opening goal was scored by Demba Ba, who broke the offside trap by remaining inside his own half while everyUnited outfield player was ahead of him on the pitch.
The amateurish defending has been slammed since the end of the match, with Solskjaer himself calling it ‘unforgivable’ and other critics branding the showing ’embarrassing’ and ‘disrespectful to school boys’.
Unsurprisingly, there was a huge fallout in the wake of the defeat and talkSPORT was inundated with calls from angry Man United supporters.
Demba Ba was (somehow) the outfield player closest to the Manchester United goal
It was the simplest of tasks for Ba, who ran through on goal and finished with ease
And one supporter, Mark, joined the Sports Bar to express his frustrations and make clear he is starting to come around to the opinion of ‘Ole Out’.
“I never wanted to be the United fan phoning talkSPORT, groaning, ‘Ole out, Ole out’,” said Mark.
“There were no defenders in our half, which was mental! You just think, ‘what on Earth?’ Have they never seen a game of football before? There is no excuse for that.
“If Ole is doing his job his instructions should be quite clear, and this isn’t the only bad performance we’ve had.
“And honestly – and I’ve been a United fan for over 30 years and I love them and love Ole – but he is not an incredible manager. There is no major club in the world who, if we let him go tomorrow, would step in and go, ‘we’ll have him, he’s a good manager’.
“No one!”
But Mark’s call paled in comparison to the stunning claim his fellow Red Devil Dave made when he phoned into Thursday’s talkSPORT Breakfast.
In fact, he told hosts Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist that United should sack Solskjaer right now, and bring the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson – now 78 and retired for seven years – back to the Old Trafford dugout!
Admittedly, he only wants Sir Alex back on an interim basis until a top-class full-time manager can be hired, but we don’tthink this one will be happening.
Sir Alex retired in 2013 but Dave wants him back in the Old Trafford dugout
Personally, I dont think they should have rushed in and got Ole as a proper manager, began Dave. They shouldnt have rushed into it at all.
And I personally think they should let him go and bring Sir Alex back as an interim, and the board should take their time in finding a full-time manager like [Mauricio] Pochettino or [Massimiliano] Allegri.
