David Moyes didnt hold back as he shamed his West Ham players for opening the new Premier League season with a weak performance against Newcastle.
The Hammers got off to a dreadful start on Saturday night as they were beaten 2-0 at home, in a game that just shows what summer signings can do for a team.
David Moyes looked a broken man as he watched West Hams opening day defeat from the sidelines
Newcastle’s new arrivals Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick gave the Magpies the boost they are paid for, as they stuck a goal apiece in the second-half to secure victory for their new club.
West Ham, meanwhile, got off to a dreadful start with a performance that did nothing to shift the overwhelming cloud of negativity currently surrounding the London Stadium.
If anything, it made it denser.
Annoyed by the clubs decision to sell top starlet Grady Diangana to West Brom, supporters rage would have been cranked up even further after watching West Ham’s first outing of the season, which they will be desperately hoping will not end up resulting in another battle against relegation.
It may be too early to make that call, especially after the shortest pre-season in history, but Moyes admitted he did not like what he saw and bemoaned his players folding against Steve Bruces side.
Moyes was particularly annoyed about West Ham’s ‘weak’ defending for Callum Wilson’s opening goal
While the Hammers did hit the bar twice and had two penalty shouts turned down, a downcast Moyes told talkSPORTs Ian Abrahams after the match: Id have struggled to pick any positives from it, to be honest.
I didnt think we played well tonight, I didnt think it was a good game. We have to play better to give ourselves a chance.
I didnt enjoy the game, I didnt think we performed well.
I think our defending was weak and I hope we get to score some goals in a similar fashion, because I thought it was far too easy for Newcastle.
It was a tight game, there was nothing in it, it was a battle and a scrap for the majority of the game.
It was just a case of who was going to fold first, and unfortunately we did.

Moyes was stunned by how poor his West Ham side were against Newcastle
West Ham have vowed to reinvest the Diangana money straight back into the team, but while there are links with a move for Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski, there was been no new faces through the door at the London Stadium yet.
But Moyes insisted the lack of signings wasnt to blame for the defeat, it was the lack of performance from the players they do have.
Were short, agreed the manager, but thats not the reason why we lost the game.
Thats because of the players who are here and the players who played tonight.
I have to get them in a similar form we were in when we finished last season after lockdown.
We played very well then and it was the same group of players, but we didnt perform as well tonight.
