Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to bring Gareth Bale back to Tottenham, but the club cant afford him.
The 31-year-old left Spurs to join Real Madrid in a then world record £85million deal in 2013 and went on to win four European Cups.
Bale was all smiles while on international duty with Wales last week
However, he is currently being frozen out by Zinedine Zidane at the Bernabeu having played only 100 minutes of football in Real’s final 12 games of the 2019/20 season.
Spanish outlet Marca claim Tottenham boss Mourinho would love to sign Bale.
But the Wales forwards £600,000-a-week wages could prove to be a major stumbling block for any potential deal.
Last week, Bale, who has two years left on his Los Blancos contract, admitted he would be open to a Premier League comeback.
He said: “If those options arise, it is something I’d look at for sure.
We’ll see what happens, we have plenty of time in this transfer window and a couple of others as well.
Time will tell but mainly I think the reason is that the decision is in Real Madrid’s hands.
Bale has spent much of this year on the Real Madrid bench
Bale is expected to return to Real Madrid this week after helping Wales achieve back-to-back Nations League wins over Finland and Bulgaria.
Last month, former Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy urged Bale to return to north London.
He told talkSPORT: Id be saying to him, go and play, mate and just enjoy it.
There has to be a way out of Real Madrid and I think the one place for Gareth is Tottenham.
