Old Trafford turned blue on Thursday night as Manchester United showed their support and paid tribute to the National Health Service.
The world-famous stadium had just three of the letters in ‘Manchester United’ lit up, leaving ‘NHS’ emblazoned on the arena.
United’s classy move was done to coincide with the weekly ‘Clap For Carers’ which has been taking place at 8pm every Thursday since the UK went into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Manchester United’s unique show of support to the NHS
The stadium tribute followed the series of measures which the club announced last week to support the NHS and their local services.
Last week, the Red Devils announced their foundation had delivered more than 3,500 gifts to NHS staff, while the club offered their 16-vehicle fleet to the healthcare system to aid in courier operations.
Furthermore, United have donated medical equipment and consumables to Salford Royal, while they are also part of the Premier League’s £20million commitment to support the NHS, communities, families and vulnerable groups affected by the pandemic.
Sir Alex Ferguson, the Man United legend, spoke out last week to praise the club and the UK as a whole for the work they are doing in the fight against COVID-19.
The Scot said: Im delighted we are now recognising the importance of our NHS as I experienced two years ago after they saved my life the response to this pandemic has been magnificent and has made me proud of the way the club and the British people have rallied round to help. Well Done.
