The National Famine Commemoration is due to take place this afternoon in Saint Stephen’s Green in Dublin city centre.
The National Famine Commemoration is due to take place this afternoon in Saint Stephen’s Green in Dublin city centre.
The event, which will not be open to the public due to Covid-19 restrictions, will be attended by the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan, who will lay a wreath on behalf of the Irish people.
The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps will also attend the ceremony at the Edward Delaney Famine Sculpture and lay a wreath in remembrance of all those who suffered or died during the Famine.
The event had been due to take place in Buncrana, Co Donegal but this has been postponed until 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The National Famine Commemoration will be streamed live on RTÉ News Now, on the RTÉ Player and on the RTÉ News website.
