More than $1 billion of projects across the City of Sydney were given the green light on Thursday.

Cr Moore said the projects boasted excellent design, sustainable buildings and real community benefit, from additional job space and childcare, to public art, restaurants, bars and cinemas, and stunning ground level amenity.
One of the projects that obtained approval is a landmark development at 505 George Street, which will transform the city skyline with Sydney’s tallest residential tower at 270 metres high.
Mirvac is managing the 505 George Street project on behalf of Coombes Property Group, with architects Ingenhoven and Architectus selected following an international design competition.
The old Event Cinema will be demolished and replaced by two new buildings.  Supplied
The tower, which will comprise 507 apartments including luxury serviced suits and a rooftop restaurant and bar, will be built in conjunction with a neighbouring property at 525-529 George Street, which also received approval, for a 150 metre tower to be developed by hospitality and entertainment group EVENT.
The smaller tower will house a 450-room Atura Hotel as well as a boutique cinema complex and 72 apartments.
However construction is still at least a year away with several other factors at play, including the need for apartment pre-sales and several tenancies still in place.
Coombes Property Group director Michael Coombes said the project would help restore George Street as the thriving main thoroughfare of the city centre.
Its delivery will signal the resurgence of Sydneys midtown, revitalising the historic precinct which includes the adjacent Town Hall complex, and bringing it back into line with nearby Darling Harbour and Circular Quay, by making it a global destination in its own right,” Mr Coombes said.
On the periphery of the City of Sydney’s local government area, a new medical hotel, part of the ongoing Oxford Street revitalisation project was also given the green light.
Just across the road from St Vincent’s Hospital, a heritage site at 1-11 Oxford Street that used to house the old Olympia Theatre will be transformed into purpose-built accommodation to suit the needs of patients and families, along with floor space dedicated to health services facilities.
The project is a collaboration between CE Boston Hotels and St Vincents Hospital.
