Ross Barkley has completed a season-long loan move to Aston Villa, the Premier League club have confirmed.
Just hours after being among the substitutes as Chelsea were defeated by Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, Barkley heads to Villa Park on a temporary basis for the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign.
The 26-year-old former Everton player had made three appearances for the Blues this season, but leaves following the summer signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner pushing him down the pecking order.
An Aston Villa statement read: “Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Ross Barkley on a season-long loan from Chelsea.”
Manager Dean Smith added: Capturing a player of Rosss quality is a real coup for our club and I am certain he will thrive here and improve our team.
