The Lokomotiv Moscow defender, Innokenty Samokhvalov, has died at the age of just 22, his club announced on Monday afternoon.
Samokhvalov is understood to have passed away as a result of heart failure suffered during a solo training session, with all the club’s players training alone as they are quarantined because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Lokomotiv Moscow wrote on Twitter: “We are truly sad to announce the death of Kazanka defender Innokentiy Samokhvalov.

A club statement added: “On April 20, defender Innokenty Samokhvalov died. The footballer became ill during an individual training session. Details of the tragedy are being clarified.”
Samokhvalov joined Lokomotiv in 2015 but had not yet made an appearance for their first-team during his time in Moscow.

He has instead been representing the Russian Premier League club’s reserve team, Kazanka Moscow, playing 65 times and scoring four goals.
